Day 41 – mile 563 to mile 584

We headed out and finished the climb up to Chestnut Knob first thing. It had some bald views of the Virginia ridges.

The shelter at the summit had a door, which is highly unusual for a shelter.

The rest of the morning was hiking on some rocky rough tread with some minor elevation change. It was the first section of trail that I think was actually kind of boring. It turned into a bit of a mental grind since it was tough hiking without any payoff of a nice view or any real landmarks even. Thankfully the afternoon trail graded out and was much easier, so the day got better as it went along. We both listened to some music as we hiked along, which was also a mental boost. I was air rocking the bass to Kaddisfly, which may have frightened the wildlife.

We hiked around 21 miles and made camp on a ridge a bit after an intersection with the Trail Boss Trail. I don’t know who the “Trail Boss” is, but he or she sounds tough.

Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend!

Vital stats :
Mood – trail bossy
Physical state – normal
Smell – onion garlic cucumber fresh
Song stuck in my head – Campfire by Kaddisfly

Inquiring minds want to know: Approximately how long does it take you to set up your tarp and campsite each day? You and Katie can sign to each other when you’re feeling a little bored! Would that make Katie hike faster to get away from your sounds? 🙂 Stay safe and healthy. Sending positive thoughts, prayers and lots of love.
